19.2% of children between the ages of five and eight do not have a book at home. according to the national literacy trust's report on "Book ownership in 2023", this number is on the rise.

1 in 8 children aged 8-18 recieving free school meals do not own a book either. Book ownership improves literacy and life outcomes, so we aim to get as many books to children in primary schools as possible.

It is widely accepted that book ownership improves literacy and life outcomes (CYPBO 2023, National Literacy Trust). We believe that every child should have access to their own high quality book to encourage their imaginations and literacy skills.  

Our mission is simple; to place a book into the hands of as many children in Somerset's Primary Schools as possible.

Every donation goes directly to giving children access to books, and we make each penny go as far as it can without compromising on quality.
